This is a mad story about a mad and unknown place and that does not figure anywhere in its mad and screeching nation’s map. Paglaapur. The fight is about bringing national focus to this much neglected swathe in the hinterlands of India. Crazy Paglaapurians therefore collaborate and plan and scheme under the aegis of a mad and shrewd strategist who knows that publicity is the way to all heavens. This lead to madness all around in Paglaapur and in the mad media industry of urban India and the world. As newspapers, press photo agencies and television channels pore over, write and holler about Paglaapur’s unique attraction, its UFO crop circles, the hamlet emerges as the new Indian rival to Disneyland. But all is not as it seems. Even the whackiest of minds around cannot fathom what lies in store. The aliens, not at all amused at this mockery of their existence and their extra-terrestrial lives, have other plans though. They are going to convert this cry of ‘Tora! Tora! Tora!’ into reality and chase everybody down. Shirish Kunder’s Jokerseems to be an insane journey into the world of the strange and the hidden, a journey packed with myriad surprises and thuds. One waits to find out how its cinematic execution stands and if its sci-fi adventure plot does indeed go high-octane or if it fizzles out with merely a loud pop.
