The 23rd Busan International Film Festival Opens Philippine Cinema Exhibition
The 23rd Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 4, 2018 to October 13, 2018.
The 23rd Busan International Film Festival hosts a special program called ‘Cinema as a Response to the Nation’ to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Philippine cinema. The Busan International Film Festival will screen ten Philippine masterpieces from the Philippine cinema special program selections as well as exhibit many other additional events. We now expect audiences to feel more connected to this meaningful event.
A centennial anniversary exhibition of Philippine cinema will be held at a ‘Dome’ located in Dureraum Square during the festival period. The exhibition called ‘Sandaan: 100 Years of Philippine Cinema Exhibit’ will show many video materials and texts that show the hundred years of Philippine cinema in one place. Acclaimed film historian Nick De Ocampo and other curators will join and be a guide for audiences during the festival.
Established filmmakers such as Brillante Mendoza and Kidlat Tahimik will visit Busan with their newest works. Further, star actors including Christopher De Leon, Joel Torre, and Piolo Pascual will visit the Busan International Film Festival to meet the audience.
There will be a special talk program for an anthology film called LAKBAYAN (Journey) which is a collaboration work of Brillante Mendoza, Lavrente DIAZ, and Kidlat Tahimik. It will be an event where major Filipino filmmakers and actors can look back at the last hundred years and discuss the next century. A commemorative booklet made for this special program will also be shown during the festival period.
