Top Performers we are excited to see more in 2017
It’s December already, which is for us time for LISTS!
Every once in a while you see performers in motion that become a part of you through their performances and never leave your heart and mind. These men & women become more than just acts in a film and we can’t get enough of them.
Pandolin lists our favorites of the season who we want to see more in 2017.
The overwhelming Raman Raghav 2.0 might have been not the most complimented film but it had one of the best debuts of the year in Shobhita Dhulipala delivering a subtle yet powerful performance alongside heavyweight Nawazuddin Siddiqui and last year’s award-winning debutant Vicky Kaushal.
The supermodel’s role of a modern, hot, suave girl at a bar transforming into a hopeful and then disgusted girlfriend of Raghav was one of the highlights of the film and one that the modern audience could easily relate to; among the three main characters in the film.
She is to be seen next in a Telugu movie and has apparently also signed Raja Menon’s adaptation of Jon Favreau’s Chef, also starring Saif Ali Khan.
Well, let’s hope that’s not the only films featuring her that we see in 2017 because there is too much more to this Miss India Earth for all of us to explore.
Anyone who has seen Masaan (SHOULD, if you haven’t) can say that of all the breakthrough performances in the film, the one which we wanted more of was Shweta Tripathi. The bubbly, Disney girl that is a household favourite with her Cadbury ads is now starring in Disney Bindass’ series ‘The Trip’ where she and her girlfriends travel for a bachelorette that unfolds episode by episode.
Shweta’s long-in-waiting release Haraamkhor, directed by debutant Shlok Sharma featuring Nawazuddin along side her is a story of a small town student and teacher’s forbidden love which has won big globally and has been finally cleared by FCat for a release and will be out in the cinemas on 13th January. For those who have seen the film, it’s yet another acting master stroke by this overdose of cuteness.
After Haraamkhor, Shlok Sharma’s second (shot on an Iphone) also featuring Shweta & Shashank Arora (Titli, Rock On 2) called Zoo will be up for a release, but we definitely want more.
This is one small packet that we want to be bottomless! #PunIntended
This copywriter turned Snapchat star is everywhere. Her ‘Makeup Didi’ antics or the news reporter in the later AIB feature, the too real girl next door in the Girliyapa videos or the now launched series The Trip along side Shweta Tripathi, Sapna Pabbi and Lisa Haydon.
Not many know that she is a theatre Major and oh girl, she can tickle even the thick skinned.
She has been signed by OML and should be launching her YouTube channel in 2017 so we are guaranteed of the entertainment but if all goes well for her (and us) we should hopefully see her on the big screen too very soon.
Not many of us knew him when we first saw him in a small but very funny role of a Pakistani boy hoping to learn some English in a New York language training centre while flirting his way through in the much acclaimed Sridevi starrer English Vinglish.
The very ‘cool’ Mikesh from Permanent Roommates or Twisty in Bang Baaja Baaraat or his numerous collabs with Anand Tiwari or the cool new avatar of the divorced elder brother in TVF’s Tripling.
This man is the biggest superstar of the biggest cult web-series in India and certainly, that’s not all he has to offer.
The multi-talented writer & actor was seen in Lina Yadav’s Parched in a key role and has bagged a solo film with Kalki Koechlin and we are hoping that this is just the beginning. We want to watch a lot more of him and will not be disappointed because we are sure to get the full dose of Sumeet Vyas in 2017.
This woman is something else. If you are a regular TVF viewer you have seen her or better yet, seen her writing! Even her cameo in Tripling is legendary!
An LLB by education, this Delhi girl is also our personal favorite. Fortunately we have some BREAKING NEWS that Bisht will soon be starring in a TVF Series called Bisht Please! A show about a very average girl and her day to day problems, we cannot wait!
He is the hero we need! Earlier this month Vicky featured in a fun AIB video that discusses the patriarchy and sexism prevalent through the years in Hindi Cinema and he nails all the avatars. He was also the wonderful son in Google’s The Hero – A Bollywood Story. He featured in Zubaan & Raman Raghav 2.0 this year. RR2 won a lot of appreciation globally and a good portion of the praise went to him for his portrayal and the risk he has taken with a film like that this early in his carrier.
Vicky is a gem of an actor and we are wish to see a lot more of him in the new year.
We all love him! Girls dig him!! Kanan Gill will be seen in Noor opposite Sonakshi Sinha and it is exciting to say the least to see what kind of a movie is the guy on ‘Pretentious Movie Reviews’ making.
More sketches, more pretentious movie reviews, more stand up and many more movies! Carry on Kanan!
Taapsee is the biggest surprise. Since we saw her kick ass in Baby, she has been the go-to girl. She is big down South and rightly so and has had a cracker of a year with Pink’s success. 2017 is a packed year for the actress with Naam Shabana, RunningShaadi.com, The Ghazi Attack, Tadka and Judwaa 2. We are certainly not complaining.
Bhumi swayed the 2015 award season with her debut in Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Unfortunately we haven’t seen her at all since! She was signed for Manmarziyan which has been delayed but in the meantime there is amazing buzz for her role with Akshay Kumar in the intriguing comedy love story Toilet – Ek Prem Katha which seems to be inspired by Narendra Modi’s pet project ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
We loved her in Dum Laga Ke and her transformation pictures + her cameo in the web series Man’s World but all that was a long time ago. We need more! And More!!
Amol is one of the greatest acting discoveries of 2016. His performance as the carefree DJ brother in TVF’s Tripling was one of the most noticed characters in a long time.
First seen in Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year, he went on to make a mark with his appearance in Traffic along side seasoned actors like Manoj Bajpayee.
Tripling’s Chitvan has a film on underground music in production and will be seen in a short soon. A regular in TVCs Amol is now a heartthrobe surely to watch out for. Here’s to more from the ‘cool’ dude!
Not one of you can forget him in everything he has done! But that was a long long time ago and this man has become one of the most famous personality our time and age.
His Tech Conversations with Dad, TVF Pitchers and everything that he has been on has the viewers hooked. In fact, Arunabh Kumar (TVF) believes that he is one of the best actors in India. We concur.
Swara is a mind blowing actress and it’s unfortunate that we haven’t had the opportunity to see her in quite as many roles that exploit her potential as much as Nil Battey Sannata did.
In 2017, she will be seen in Aditya Kripalani’s film Tikli & Laxmi Bomb based on his novel of the same name. Swara plays a 22-year-old prostitute who forms a cooperative and what unfolds is for one to see. Already has us excited!!!
Diljit is a rockstar. His music, his performances in Punjabi cinema like 1984 Punjab are brilliant, and he is such a humble personality that you fall in love with him even when you watch him in an interview.
His performance in Udta Punjab as a transforming cop Sartaj who’s drug addict brother changes his entire perspective and brings in a new mission in life alongside Kareena Kapoor blew minds till the last shot. In 2017 we will see him in Phillauri which also features Anushka Sharma and the Punjabi film Super Singh.
UPDATE: We will be making a part two of the list which will include a lot of recommendations from our readers of the names we missed!
